Get creative with the entire family at Westport Arts Center’s Family Art Day: Create Your Family’s Modern Crest on Sunday, March 26 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Arts Center’s bi-annual Family Art Day is always a very popular event, providing an opportunity for families to work together on hands-on creative projects. The projects are designed to introduce artistic processes and techniques, to help kids explore their imaginations, and to help bring the Arts Center’s exhibitions to life.

Volunteers will be on hand to help guide families through the project stations, materials, and techniques. The projects can be adapted to be age-appropriate for all of the young artists in your family.

For the March 26th event, families will enjoy a visit from Caroline Wurtzel, an illustrator and graphic designer for Bustle.com, a website dedicated to providing the latest news on politics, technology, fashion, and more. Wurtzel will speak about the art of design and will help families create their own family crest using a variety of materials and design techniques.

Families will also have the opportunity to plant a succulent, and to decorate their personal planter with their new crest, to bring home to remember the event.

Lillie Fortino, Westport Arts Center’s Director of Education, stated, “Family Art Day is unique in that it provides an opportunity for families to create and experiment together. For this special event, attendees will bring home a finished product they can showcase in their home and keep for years to come.”

In addition to family crest design, families can work together to create multi-media masks enhanced with jewels and glitter, providing a chance for kids to showcase their “true colors.”

Family Art Day will also include a special preview of Summer Camp 2017 projects. Learn more about the new contemporary workshops, talented instructors and schedule. Families who are members (or who become members on Family Art Day) can sign up for Summer Camp during Family Art Day to receive an additional 10% off Summer Camp registration. This one-time registration special is available only during Family Art Day.

The backdrop for Family Art Day: Create Your Family’s Modern Crest is the As We Are! exhibition by Yale Senior Design Critic Pamela Hovland. The exhibition examines the theme of identity, stereotype and the power of words.
